Food allergic individuals in Virginia have something to celebrate thanks to the efforts of Jennifer Elizondo. Jennifer, a mother of a child with multiple food allergies, recently opened a grocery store specializing in products for individuals with food allergies and other special diets. The Allergy Free Food Shop is located at 4312 Holland Road, Suite 115 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
I spoke with Jennifer earlier today about her new store. Due to the food allergies in her family, Jennifer is very familiar with allergy friendly foods that are on the market as well as the challenges of grocery shopping for food allergies. She has done substantial research and information gathering about the products her store carries. Manufacturers and distributors are surveyed about their use of food allergens. Of particular concern are eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, wheat, sesame, sulfite, corn, and yeast as both ingredients and possible cross-contaminants. The store provides customers with information about manufacturing facilities, product ingredients, and potential risks for cross-contamination to assist them with their purchase decisions.

Wow! I wish I lived closer this sounds great!
Me too! It would be nice to have a store nearby where you were sure to find not one but several really safe foods.
I recently went to Navan foods. The owner was great and knowledgeable. And everything was labeled with cards that stated which common allergens each product did or didn't contain. It certainly took the complications out of shopping!
Holly Tried It: Thanks for your comment! It's great to get the feedback.
